Ted & Juli Kautzmann
In Costa Rica with the Latin American Training Network
Please pray for Ted's
trip to Cuba, where he will give an intensive course to
the faculty of a seminary. This school trains leaders for a 20,000 member
evangelical denomination. By carefully "rendering unto Caesar"
(Castro) in anything that
does not compromise the gospel, these churches have
survived and grown in a hostile climate for 40 years. The faculty of
their seminary is highly
educated in secular universities, but has limited training
in the Bible. So the school has asked LATN to send visiting professors
to upgrade the faculty. Ted will teach a one-week course on biblical
interpretation. Teaching in Cuba presents unique challenges. He was
all set to go last week, but the visa did not arrive in time. Now the
course is rescheduled for
early November. The visa arrived here yesterday, so
that detail is covered. Please pray that the books and articles Ted is
bringing for the students
will not be confiscated. Pray too that he won't be
hampered by complications in the flight, the food and the weather. Finally,
please pray that his teaching really meets the needs of the seminary.
In September, Ted and
other LATN staff went to Ecuador to attend a gathering
of over a thousand leaders from all over Latin America. Many showed
great interest in our new project, the Latin American Training Network.
We interviewed people in order to discover their needs for leadership
training. With this information, we'll be able to design the courses
of study that will help the churches of Latin America grow into a powerhouse
for reaching the world for Christ. It's exciting.
Meanwhile, we're in
the middle of creating and testing our first prototype course.
A Costa Rican student is getting master's credit for taking this course
together with a student in Lima, Peru. We have weekly meetings in which
we have a voice connection over the Internet between Lima and San Jose.
Take a peek at the web-site for the course at www.pro-meta.com
. Go ahead and
click on the links. When you click on the "Discussion" links,
you'll find a bulletin board in which the students and I have on-going
exchanges. Remember that this is an experimental proto-type and is incomplete.
But you'll be amazed at how fast the website loads.
At Home:
Juli remains healthy and has more energy than last year. She and I are
getting more involved in
ministry at our church plant. Juli plays keyboard for
worship and will begin working with little children. I am teaching the
leaders of cell groups.
Our kids are now all going to the little missionary
school 5 blocks from home. Overall, we're impressed with the quality
of the school and the friends the kids already have there.
Please pray with us
about the different concerns you see scattered through this
letter. Thank you so much for your partnership in prayer with us.
Yours,
Ted & Juli Kautzmann
