Prayer Update from Ted and Diane Holzmann (last update March 28, 2003)
Church Planting with TEAM in Neuburg (on the Danube), German

Dear Pray-ers,

Old news:
Diane’s engagement ring has yet to be restored to her, but we are hopeful that the diamond they bought will be placed soon in the setting and returned.

We have no news yet of the Pfaffenhofen group. We were not able to meet with them for their monthly team meeting and have heard no news from them.

Peter and Martina have canceled three appointments for pre-marital counseling. There is a distinct spiritual battle going on. Your continued prayers are very much appreciated.

For better communication with the congregation, the elders decided to divide up the church’s directory and commit themselves to calling each adult member during the month, asking for prayer requests. Every few months they will rotate families. So far, the response of the people has been very positive.

Our 100 year celebration went very well. It was a fun evening. There was good fellowship and lots of food too! We took our old photo albums with us. Seeing us “when” was a big hit for old and young alike. (3 pictures attached) Our landlords came and were surprised to discover people they knew among the congregation.

New news:
Birgit, a young believer, made a very difficult decision last Sunday. She ended a 2 year old relationship with her non-Christian boyfriend. This has been a struggle, as she said: “It would be so much easier if I were not a Christian. He has treated me so nice, and there just are no available Christian men here.” He gave her freedom to participate in her “Christian club,” but showed no active interest in this part of her life. Pray that God would be her strength (her husband), that the church would circle around her as she walks with God.

At the moment Diane is studying for a correspondence course final exam – Old Testament Prophets – which she will take next week. Ted, just having finished preaching a small series on God’s view of war, will now return to and finish Song of Solomon. In June he will begin preaching through Philippians.

Four important events happen(ed) this week. Pray for lasting fruit from each of these.

Nine days of tent evangelism came to a close in Ingolstadt (pictures of out and in). There was a good response and great cooperation between the Ev. Free Church and the Baptist church. The tent was located on a central traffic circle by the shopping mall!

Those interested in ministry to teenagers met together Monday for vision building and planning about how to move forward when there are only three teens still active in church, but a lot more coming in the next couple of years.

Tuesday was an information evening for the evangelistic course called Alpha – some of you probably know about this as there are about 7,000 churches in the States doing it! – which the elders would like to see implemented over the next year. (Ingolstadt is using it as follow-up for the tent).

Friday is the first in a series of evenings for couples.

 Two pictures just for fun…

Our Easter Sunday service included an infant dedication. In the picture you can also notice the Easter eggs hanging from a tree as decoration, Ted’s laptop and digital projector on the overhead projector, and the church’s book stall in the background (the nearest Christian bookstore is 100+ miles away).

Diane’s mother was given a week long all expenses paid tour of Switzerland. We drove down to Lucerne on Sunday 4/27, after Ted preached in Augsburg and joined her group for the day on Monday… spectacular!

We are so grateful to the Lord for your presence and prayers!

 Ted & Diane

PS A book tip: Safely Home by Randy Alcorn (Tyndale). We’re reading it out loud to each other and can hardly put it down!
