Subject: Costa Rica update
Hello from Costa Rica!
What's happening in our neck of the woods? Plenty.
Ministry
The field-testing of two new courses, one on Church Planting and another on I Corinthians is almost complete. One retained most of its pilot
students, the other had a high drop out rate (started with 8, but will finish with only 4). We will be conducting interviews to find out why. Four more courses are in the design phase and will be field-tested in the next two semesters. Over the last couple of months we have had people come here from numerous Latin American countries to advise us on the shape of the rest of the curriculum. It's Ted's job to guide the curriculum design process and it is coming along well.
Family
Sam is headed to Africa for college. He's not sure what career he wants to pursue, but pastoral ministry or missions are possibilities, so he'll take courses in Bible at Daystar University, a Christian college in Kenya. Sam graduated from high school in a nice ceremony attended by about 100 people. You could say he was both the valedictorian and salutatorian of his class, since he was the only graduate this year! Lots of nice things were said about him (but what else was there to say??). Actually, we're very proud of him. In June and July he will be in Schenectady, NY with Ted's brother Dave and his wife Janet, hopefully finding some employment. Sarah is concentrating on summer school this year, to get ahead on her course work at Taylor U. James is finishing up his first year of computer-assisted home schooling. It seems to have worked well and we'll probably continue it next year. Juli is doing well health-wise. We are considering buying a home here. We've never been able to own one. Please pray for wisdom and, if God wants us to buy a home, pray we'll get a loan for something better than the going rates in Costa Rica.
Finances
Our financial support has been holding pretty strong but due to increases this year, we've fallen behind by a few hundred dollars a month. It's not an emergency situation, but we must take some steps to strengthen the support base.
Here is a summary of some things we'd like you to be praying for:
* LATN: That we would find the right professors to design new courses
* Sarah's summer school: pray she does well and gets plenty of part time work hours.
* Sam's plans: pray he gets a good job in NY, finds all the money he needs for college in Africa, and makes a smooth transition to an insulin pump to control his diabetes.
* James: Pray his home schooling puts him ahead this summer, especially in reading
* Our Church in Costa Rica: That we'd find the right pastor.
* Financial support: that our support would climb back up to 100%
Yours,
Ted, for the Kautzmann family
