Subject: Great news!
Rejoice with us!
Lately, we’ve received some really special blessings.
First, Sarah is
recovering well from surgery (endometriosis). She missed her short J term at
college, but that way we get to have her around for a couple more weeks. And
missing that little term doesn’t set her back much.
Next, we are buying our first house this month! This dream of ours has
always seemed beyond our reach until two acts of God recently changed that.
Out of the blue some missionary friends handed us a large gift earmarked
specifically for use as a down payment on a house someday. Then last month
some other missionary friends who used to live here asked us to make an
offer on their house. We made a very low offer, with an apology that we knew
it was worth more. They accepted that offer and agreed to carry the loan for
us at a low fixed rate. This was a huge favor, knowing they could get a lot
more for it and not have to finance it. Our payments are slightly less than
the rent we’ve been paying, but they will allow us to pay off the loan in 13
years. Both couples, the sellers and the ones who gave us the down payment
are all missionaries, totally unknown to each other. You never know how God
is going to work or whom He’s going to use, but He’s going to be gracious.
You can see the house if you can connect to Google Earth (http://earth.google.com/),
though it doesn’t look like much from the top. Go to coordinates 9°54’14.80”
N., 84°00’58.85” W. One story, it has 3 bedrooms plus a family room. It’s a
little smaller than the place we’re in now, but it’s fully adequate,
especially now with 2 kids at home. It is only 10 years old, well
constructed, in a good neighborhood, and has very good security. I’m hoping
I can use a bicycle to commute to work, at least sometimes. We’ll take
possession at the end of January.
On top of all of this, the months of November and December were very good
months for our support account, as several of you gave special gifts. This
is encouraging indeed. It still appears that we need to widen or deepen our
regular support base during 2006, but these good months are averting a
crisis. Thanks so much for your prayers and giving.
We pray that you have a year full of sightings of God’s work.
Gratefully,
Ted, Juli and family
