Dear Friends,
Hello from Costa Rica!
How are you doing? This letter will center more on family, because that
has been the main focus for me, Juli, these past months.
Home

We
keep the medical economy going here. It’s incredible. James (now 12) had
been complaining about stomach pain. After shuffling between several
doctors for over a month, and many trips around town for tests, it was
determined he had mono-hepatitis. He is over it now, but struggles with
bouts of severe anxiety. He’s seeing a Christian counselor. In the midst
of that, Joanna (10) fell in soccer and broke her arm. She says the cast
was put on by an "ortho-potamus". Then she began to have a kind
of stomach pain that worried the pediatric surgeon. And he didn’t like
the fluid sloshing around outside of her intestine that he saw on an
ultrasound. He expected appendicitis. Several tests and visits later, she
began to feel better. Whatever it was, God had healed her. Now she has a
persistent rattle in her lungs and is using an inhaler. The doctor hopes
it’s not the beginning of asthma. The rest of the family has been doing
well, outside of the usual viruses. We really feel Satan has
targeted us lately more than ever. Our church elders prayed over the
children.
School
School
ended May 31st. It was a good year. Sarah had a lead role
(Eliza Doolittle) in the school play and did a great job with a cockney
accent. The kids all participated in the end of the year praise program
and amazed us with the amount of scripture they memorized. Sarah, Sam and
James, though they got good grades, are in summer school. It’ll keep ‘em
busy.
Church
Sarah and
Sam participate in the worship music team. Sarah sings and Sam plays the
guitar. Their youth group hosted an evangelistic coffee house a few weeks
back and really did a great job.
Our church however, is struggling with a lack of leadership since the
church-planting pastor left. Pray that God will give direction.
Prayer requests:
Ted:
As he finishes the semester at the seminary and as he rushes to complete
the course materials on CD for his hermeneutics course starting in
August with students in Peru, Venezuela and Costa Rica.
Me (Juli):
Energy, as I manage the household with kids mostly on break.
Sarah:
As she considers colleges. Pray too that she remain undepressed.
Sam:
He has changed to a new type of insulin. Pray he masters the art of
balancing those blood sugars.
James:
That he improves reading skills over the summer.
Joanna:
As she says good-bye to friends who are moving away.
We love you and
appreciate your hanging in there with us.
Yours,
Juli
